WHERE THE
SOUND BEGINS.

Early-to-mid-1990s UK DJs and producers drew from Chicago house and Detroit techno without letting either label fully describe their sound. Wiggle parties and Swag Records helped give the developing scene a home.

The first wave was flexible and underground: grooves were stripped back, but the swing and physical pull of house remained.
