01 / THE STORY

WHERE THE
SOUND BEGINS.

New York's house community included musicians and DJs whose Puerto Rican and other Latin musical backgrounds shaped their records. Masters at Work's Louie Vega and Kenny Dope describe the influences they brought into their work together.

Latin house covers many approaches, from percussion-rich club tracks to songs with Latin instrumentation and vocals. There is no single founder or one definitive starting year.
